M. T. Gaffney is an artist, writer, and narrative designer.​



Most of my work focuses on the act of play as a form of creative expression. Setting creative boundaries through game systems invites innovation. Taking on the role of characters or coming up with fantastic ideas is in some part a revival of group storytelling, a social event across cultures before the formalization of "The Arts" as separate makers and spectators.

I believe that games, roleplaying games especially, are the most advanced form of contemporary art. They encompass the elements of all previous art forms and collage them into an entirely new, exceptional medium of creative expression. In this constellation of artmaking, I consider myself above all else a storyteller, using my writing to make fictional worlds present in the imagination of others, and to guide these shared narratives.
